The air ambulance flew a 15-year-old to hospital after she was hit by a car in Rothwell yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, July 9).

Police say a blue Ford Fiesta, travelling towards the Glendon Road junction down Rushton Road, collided with the girl, who was crossing the road.

The girl sustained a serious injury to her left thigh and was taken to Walsgrave Hospital in Coventry by air ambulance and later transferred to the Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Freelance photographer Andrew Carpenter, who heard the air ambulance arrive, said: “Police cordoned it all off. There was also a road ambulance and a lot of police around.”

Witnesses to this collision, or anyone with information about it, is asked to call the police’s Drivewatch Hotline on 0800 174615.
