A HEROIN addict chased through residents’ back gardens by police following a burglary shouted at officers “I just need my fix” before being caught.
Jason McShefferty, 34, jumped out of a bedroom window when officers called in on him after an overnight break-in in Stamford Walk, Corby, on February 25.
After catching McShefferty they found a passport, CD player and speakers on him which had been taken from the property.
At Northampton Crown Court yesterday McShefferty was jailed for 30 months after being found guilty of burglary.
McShefferty had denied the charge at an earlier hearing after claiming it was not him who broke down the front door to the house, but he admitted taking the items.
However, following a Newton hearing at a magistrates’ court, he was found guilty of burglary.
Yesterday, the hearing was told how McShefferty targeted the address after the owner had gone to the pub for an evening out.
The victim returned at 2am to find his front door broken in, the house ransacked and a laptop, CD player, flat-screen TV, passport and beer stolen.
Police traced McShefferty by fingerprints left on a plastic bag which contained some bottles of a tonic wine called Buckfast.
