The road between the A14 at Rothwell and the B576 Harborough Road junction has been closed since January 18 after an inspection found safety issues with the bypass bridge.

A Northamptonshire Highways spokesman said: “Repairs to this section of road have required significant resource and excavations to replace the failing foundations.

“As repair works have been carried out we have continued investigative work along the closed section of the A6 bypass to ensure the rest of the carriageway is up to standard.

“This weekend we will be temporarily extending the closure to include the section of the A6 between Braybrooke Road and the B576.

“This will allow us to continue with these precautionary investigations along the carriageway and on the rail bridge.

“We are liaising with Network Rail.

“The road will be closed from 8am tomorrow (Saturday, February 18) to Monday, February 20.

“We are looking to open this up before the evening rushhour.

“During this time the diversion will follow the route already in place.”

The official diversion directs traffic on to the A427 towards Corby, exiting at the A6003 roundabout.

However, this road is closed as well this weekend.

A signed diversion route will take traffic on the A43 Corby Link Road to the A427.
