Northamptonshire police have revealed the A5 will be closed until tonight, Friday, June 22, following a fatal crash.

The collision happened at about 1am when two HGV lorries collided on the A5, near Kilsby.

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.

The driver of one of the lorries, a 47-year-old man from Luton, sadly died at the scene, and is the 21st road fatality on Northamptonshire roads already this year.

The total for the whole of last year was 19.

A spokesman from Northamptonshire Police said: “The driver and passenger of the other lorry were not seriously injured but taken to Northampton General Hospital as a precaution.

“Both the driver and passenger, who are both men, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of death by dangerous driving. Both men remain in police custody for questioning.

“Due to ongoing investigations, road damage and vehicle recovery the A5 on both directions is likely to remain closed throughout the day.”

With the road closed, diversions have been put in place.

Traffic on the A428 near Crick will be diverted onto Junction 18 of the M1.

Traffic on the A45 Weedon will be diverted onto Junction 16 of the M1.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.
