Other eliminators are taking place in Leicester and Towcester.

Derek Sibson, who is the tower captain at Barton Seagrave Church, helped organise today’s event.

He said: “It was a very good day. All the teams managed to get here despite the weather.”

The Telegraph was invited to watch a ‘free-ringing’ session at the end of today’s competition featuring a mix of bell-ringers from various teams.

Despite their proximity to the bells near the top of the 180ft church tower, the bell-ringers are well insulated from the loud noise.
