Students and staff at Southfield School in Kettering are celebrating a significant increase in their A-level results this year with the average point score per student increasing by 25 points with 27 per cen of all the grades being at the top grade. Almost all the students are going onto further education at university and the majority of them have secured their first choice places.

Headteacher Julie Goswell said: “These results are excellent in the current climate and are a testament to the outstanding teaching and learning in our 6th form.

“We are a well-established academic sixth form which is reflected in the fact that of all the grades achieved 93 per cent are in traditional A level subjects.”

The school’s AS results have mirrored the upward trend in their A2 results.

Sophie Howlett, outgoing headgirl, said: “I am delighted with my four A grades which have enabled me to pursue a career in medicine.”
