So far, the operation known as Operation Pyramid, has seen 70 people arrested, 52 people charged with offences, 47 people convicted, 168 charges taken to court and 78 years to be spent in prison.

The raids took place in April and May and 38 of those people who have been convicted of offences lived in Wellingborough.

Others were arrested at properties in Cold Ashby, Hinwick, Higham Ferrers, Bedford, Irthlingborough, Kettering and a number of arrests were made in prisons.

Detective Mark Pattison said: “This was the biggest operation of its kind in Northamptonshire, not only in terms of the number of people arrested, but also the number of officers involved, number of warrants required and time spent gathering evidence.

“So far 47 of the 70 people arrested have been convicted of offences with the vast majority of those pleading guilty in court.

“We also recovered a large amount of cash and drugs during the operation and have applied to the court under the Proceeds of Crime Act to confiscate cash from a number of the people we arrested.”

Police have continued with their efforts to tackle drug offences in Wellingborough, which has seen a 39.6 per cent drop in drug possession offences recorded in the last six months.

Detective Chief Inspector Elliot Foskett said: “Operation Pyramid demonstrates the seriousness with which we take drug dealing and gang-related crime.

“Over recent weeks, a dedicated team of officers have been tackling other drug-related criminality in the wider area and have made 13 arrests, recovered drugs, firearms and cash.

“I don’t believe any of our communities should have to accept criminality as the ‘norm’ and we are working closely with local groups and partners as well as other law-enforcement agencies to ensure that we make Northamptonshire a hostile environment for drug dealers.”

Proceedings are active on a further 10 people who are going through the criminal justice system and no further action will be taken against 13 people arrested during the operation.
