Staples will create 175 new jobs in Corby with the opening of a new 500,000 sq ft warehouse.
The global office supplies company with over 2,000 stores worldwide in 26 countries will be moving into the Crackerjack warehouse off Mitchell Road in Corby, which has largely lain unused since it was first completed several years ago.
The development will initially create up to 170 new jobs when it opens in 2015
The company’s decision to move to the town was made following a successful application for planning permission.
Mark Fletcher, Supply Chain Director, UK & Ireland for Staples said: “This unit was the ideal choice for us. The central location and infrastructure of Northamptonshire is important to the valued efficiency of our extensive distribution operation and the size of the property is a clear advantage over smaller.”
Cllr Tom Beattie, Leader of Corby Borough Council, said: “This is excellent news for Corby. Staples is a renowned international company, who will bring with it invaluable jobs and further economic growth for the area. We welcome them to the Borough and we wish them the very best of luck with their new venture here in Corby.
Corby Borough Council will continue to work with companies, large and small, to help create more employment opportunities within the Borough”
Jo Lappin, CEO of Northamptonshire Enterprise Partnership, which assisted with the process, said: “I am delighted that Staples has chosen to base a major part of its UK operation in Corby.
“This is another example of what can be achieved by making an extensive effort to accommodate new business in Northamptonshire through strong co-operation between partners. In this case, it will lead to the creation of up to 170 additional jobs which is excellent news for the people of Corby.”
