Volunteers have been busy filling goody bags and processing entries ready for the 10th Crazy Hats Walk on Mother’s Day.

More than 1,200 people have signed up for the walk, which will take place on Sunday, March 18, and the figure is growing daily.

Volunteers have been spending hours filling goody bags to give to people as they complete the walk, which will take place at Wicksteed Park in Kettering.

The bags include a number of items from the walk’s sponsors.

Crazy Hats founder Glennis Hooper said more and more entries were starting to come in and in the last few days the charity had received entries from several teams of walkers.

She said: “In the goody bags we have got a lovely medal with a pink ribbon, there is a gift from Avon, crisps from Walkers, oatibars from Weetabix and raisins from Whitworths, it’s all from local companies, which is brilliant. We are up to just over 1,200 entries at the moment and it’s picking up daily.”

Miss Hooper said Avon was also sponsoring the t-shirts which walkers will receive and AO Copy in Wellingborough had helped the charity for the 10th year by printing items including entry forms.

Avon are also sponsoring gazebos which will be put up on the day.

Miss Hooper said the operation to prepare for the event was in full swing and entries would be accepted in advance until the day.

She said: “Thanks to all the volunteers and helpers because it’s a huge undertaking getting ready for the walk.

“The teamwork behind the scenes and on the day is truly amazing.

“We had people stuffing the bags yesterday, it’s a big task. The volunteers have been brilliant.

“We can’t believe it’s now the tenth walk, it’s like planning the first one all over again.”

Admission for the walk is £5.50 for adults, £4 for under 16s, and children aged under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.

Walkers can enter on the day but Crazy Hats is asking people to enter in advance where possible to help the day run smoothly.

Awards will be given in categories including largest family team and the dog wearing the craziest hat at the awards evening on Friday, March 23.
