A new detailed image of what the proposed £50m Rushden Lakes shopping park could look like has been released.
LXB Retail Properties wants to build 20 new shops, a garden centre, drive-through restaurant, visitor centre, hotel and restaurants at Skew Bridge, off the A45.
This image shows exactly where everything will go if the plans are approved by East Northamptonshire Council’s planning committee this summer.
LXB spokesman Gavin Stollar said: “This overview of the Rushden Lakes scheme highlights the many different aspects of the Lakes proposal.
“From the large garden centre unit to the west, the hotel, leisure centre and crèche to the east and the lakes, restaurants, boathouse, visitor centre and new path and cycle-ways to the north – there is something for everyone to get excited about.”
Shopping centre owners in Corby, Kettering, Wellingborough and Northampton have raised concerns the development will damage their trade.
But traders in Rushden say they welcome the 1,500 jobs it could bring.
Adrian House, chairman of Rushden Chamber of Trade, said: “I think everybody is of the opinion that the jobs it will create will be such an advantage to all of the businesses in Rushden town centre.
“The people who are going to be employed there will have money to spend.
“I think it’s good that the injustice of the north Northamptonshire plan has been highlighted. There’s no justification for leaving us as a backwater when all these other places have had money spent on them in the past.”
