Keen bowlers have rolled £1,000 to a hospice charity.

The Cavaliers bowling team, based at Wellingborough Bowls Club, played five indoor and five outdoor games to raise funds for its chosen cause.

Chief Cavalier Mick Hall, from the group, said Cransley Hospice, its charity of the year, had received the highest amount in the 20 years since the group, which is made up of members from across the region, had been playing.

Mr Hall said: “We try and give the money to somebody who can use it there and then, rather than to big groups.

“This came about as one of our player’s wives was in there and they asked if we could give it to them this year.”

Mr Hall added: “We would like to thank all of the other people we have played and everyone who donated.”

The funds were raised by raffles and donations given during the games.

The group’s members presented a cheque for £1,000 to Diane Patrick from Cransley Hospice at its latest game.
