Primary school pupils were bowled over when the captain of Northants Cricket Club visited their school.

Steelbacks captain and South African international cricketer Andrew Hall visited Loatlands Primary School in Desborough on Wednesday to talk about sport at the highest level.

Headteacher Andrew Spencer said: “This was a unique opportunity for a local school to gain an insight into the exhilarating and challenging world of professional sport.”

Pupils mobbed Mr Hall, who has represented South Africa in 111 tests, one day international and Twenty20 matches as well as playing in over 500 first class cricket matches.

He was the county’s top run scorer in the county championship last year, scoring 960 runs at an average of over 50.
