Football fans with photographs, memorabilia or memories of a county town’s club are being asked to come forward and help celebrate its 50th anniversary.
Thrapston Town FC, originally called Thrapston Venturas, was formed for the 1960-61 football season.
The club has experienced glory over the years, starting in Kettering Amateur League (KAL) Division Three and last year winning promotion to the United Counties League (UCL) Premier Division for the first time.
Nigel Webster, 69, was a member of the club’s first ever team. He said: “I played in the club’s very first game when we beat Cottingham 6-2.
“I scored the first four goals that day, which is a nice memory to have.
“I finished up playing 300 games and scoring 200 goals for the club.
“We had a reunion after 25 years but this is another big anniversary. We’ve lost a few players since then but we’re hoping more than 100 people will turn up again this time.
“It’s a free night to go down memory lane and everyone is welcome.
“We started as six or eight young teenagers who put a team together but what has happened since is fantastic.
“Fifty years ago it was a different way of life. You played for your local team and there was no money in the game.”
On Friday, March 30, a reunion will be held at Thrapston Town’s clubhouse in Chancery Lane and all are welcome.
Mr Webster will give a talk and relive his memories of the club’s first 20 years.
Thrapston Venturas were champions of KAL Division Three in the 1962-63 season and won Division Two just two years later.
Between 1970 and 1978 they were champions of Division One five times and won the Munton Cup five times.
The club entered the UCL in the 1978-79 season and were renamed Thrapston Town.
They had further cup successes and again progressed through the leagues, before winning promotion to the Premier Division for the first time in 2010-11 – their 50th year.
Anybody who has any information to share or would like further details about the reunion can contact Dave Harris on 07957 815067 or Nigel Webster on 07597 767357.
