A canoe hire company which has had almost 4,000 people canoeing along the River Nene since it began two years ago is now launching short breaks.
Canoe2 is based in East Northamptonshire and is offering 15 different short breaks this year to give people the chance to experience outdoor adventure.
It has published its first short break brochure, featuring a range of accommodation options, including luxury camping in five-metre bell tents or a Mongolian style yurt, B&Bs, hotels and luxury apartments.
Company director Richard Nelson said: “Since we launched, almost 4,000 people have enjoyed paddling the Nene with Canoe2, including 2,750 in 2011 alone. During this period there’s been a huge demand from paddlers wishing to enhance their experience by turning day trips into multi-day adventures.
“Our new short breaks are up to five days or more and are packaged up so Canoe2 customers do not have to make accommodation plans along the river.
“As well as canoe hire and accommodation, these short breaks include all necessary equipment for paddling the river, baggage transfer between overnight stays, high-quality English breakfast at every location and road transport along the river ensuring the vast majority of paddling is downstream.”
Canoeists can discover places such as Fotheringhay, the birth place of Richard III and site of the execution of Mary Queen of Scots and the Grade I listed Elizabethan property Lyveden New Bield.
The firm is about to expand its fleet from 30 canoes to 40, typically seating two or three adults each, so groups of up to 80 or 90 paddlers can be catered for. It has experience of working with corporate groups seeking a team-building exercise, ranging from large household names such as Tesco to smaller local firm outings.
The canoe hire season begins Friday, March 23, and continues until late October.
