Rail services severely delayed after person hit by train near Wellingborough

East Midlands Rail services have been severely disrupted tonight after a person was hit by a train between Bedford and Wellingborough.

The rail company, which runs services between London St Pancras and Northamptonshire is advising passengers not to travel on its intercity services between the capital and Nottingham following the incident this evening.

It means that anyone wanting to travel to and from our area will need to find alternative transport or wait until services resume which is expected to happen in about two hours.

A statement from the company said: “There has been a person hit by a train near Bedford. This is between Wellingborough and Bedford and is disrupting our trains on the London St Pancras / Nottingham / Sheffield route.

“At present Network Rail & Emergency Services are on site and working to re open the line.

“Trains are not able to run at present between Bedford and Wellingborough, in both directions.

We will have delays of up to 60 minutes and some alterations to our services this evening across our Intercity route.

“At present we are expecting the problem to be fixed in the next two hours.

”As soon as the problem is fixed our priority will be to get trains running to their advertised times again. We expect our advertised timetable to resume on the affected routes by 9pm.

“Owing to the disruption, we advise you do not attempt to travel on EMR services to/from London St Pancras.

The company said it was currently sourcing buses to run between Kettering and Bedford in both directions.
